Sigma has announced another Art series wide angle lens 24-35mm f/2 Art. This lens is Sigma’s fifth Art series lens. It is also the world’s first full frame f/2 zoom lens covering a common wide angle from 24mm to 35mm. The lens is constructed with 18 elements in 13 groups. There is 1 premium FLD glass (performance equal to flourite) and 7 SLD glass elements to reduce distortion and chromatic aberration. If the build quality and performance are anything like the 24mm f/1.4 Art and 35mm f/1.4 Art, we are going to see one awesome lens. It is quite a surprise to see Sigma is releasing this lens first rather than a more common 24-70mm f/2.8.

The size of the lens is very similar to the Nikon 24-70mm f/2.8 and Canon 24-70mm f/2.8 and it has an 82mm filter thread. For a lens that has 1.5x zoom only (24-35mm), it is consider quite big. For those who favour to shoot wide will gain an extra stop from this lens which is prefect for those low light situation, otherwise the 24-70mm f/2.8 is much more versatile. This lens is not going to replace your 24-70mm but it might be a good alternative for those who are using 24mm and 35mm primes. If 24-35mm is your most used focal length and you don’t need super fast aperture like f/1.4 then this lens is for you.  Not to mention this lens is perfect to pair up with the Sigma 50mm f/1.4.
