PocketWizard has just announced the addition of a new entry level trigger to its lineup. The PocketWizard Plus X claims to be the simplest PocketWizard radio ever and the perfect entry into the PocketWizard Wireless System. This is a welcome addition in hopes to bring more amateur photographers into off camera flash. There are plenty of cheaper alternatives to the PcoketWizard already such as triggers from Phottix and Pixel King.  The introduction of the Plus X is to tap into the entry level and making it more affordable, while keeping much of the same functionality and reliability as PocketWizard’s much-beloved Plus II and Plus III.

What you are missing on the Plus X is the LCD interface, frequency is fixed to 344.04MHz for FCC or 433.62 MHz for CE, only 10 channels (32 channels on the Plus III) and only 1 zone (4 zones with Plus III). Overall, the Plus X is a strip down version of the Plus III with a reduced price tag. However like all PocketWizard devices, the Plus X is reverse-compatible with all PocketWizard radios, making it the perfect addition to existing gear. That is one reason why many photographers choose PocketWizard, knowing that their products will always be backward compatible when new products come out. This is not so true for the cheaper alternatives.

The PocketWizard Plus X is already in stock at B&H.
